Dental holidays or Dental travel -Money savers

Dental holidays…

Crisis propagates all over the world. The economy system is not stable. You never know what might happen tomorrow. As a result people are desperately trying to save more money. In the same time everyone’s body needs remain the same. We have to take care of our health, especially of our dental health. But when the time to act comes many of us have doubts about the real necessity of treating minor dental defects, considering the high prices of this kind of services. The solution to this problem is very simple, in fact, and it is known as dental holidays..

Today the dental travel or dental holidays and the crisis become closer one to another. These two elements of people’s world act together, even if seem to be total enemies. The first one saves money while the second makes them to be lost. But the popular dental travel is only the result of the recently appeared crisis. The dental travel , as a part of the medical travel , has existed for many years, of course. However the number of persons who began to practice it increases significantly. And the reason is obvious. Dental travel during crisis saves more money and allows you to travel abroad and to have a great time.

The formula is very simple. Dental work costs in your native country should be higher than costs of the same treatment procedure in the country you want to travel plus additional costs. The last ones include the costs of the departure itself, hotel rooms, food, some extra activities like visiting well known places in the country you travel. In case you live in the US or Western Europe it is very convenient to treat your teeth in Eastern Europe or India. On average, costs in dental travel countries are 70% less than in the UK and US.

Here are some examples.
According to Dr Seby , a UK returned dentist from India of Facets, Kochi , “A dental filling in the US or UK costs about $300-400 while in Eastern Europe or India it costs only $20-40. The treatment of your root canal will take $3000 in the United States and only $100-200 in Hungary, for example. A denture costs about $1000 in the UK and $200 in India. As you can see the difference is big, especially when it comes to treat many teeth.”

Despite the crisis and being developing countries, dental holiday destinations offer high quality treatment. The cost of dental care is low in these countries because of the low cost of infrastructure. The quality of the treatment is however comparable to what is offered in the West. In fact, some dental holiday destinations form part of the Europe and the European Economic Area. Dentists in these countries are bound by the same regulations that are in force in the rest of Europe.

It’s a different matter when the crisis causes the recession of the number of local dental clinics. In this case people have to travel abroad to take the necessary care. Usually this kind of journey is not as convenient and pleasant as the one described above, especially when quick help is needed. There are cases when the necessary type of treatment is not available and the person has no other choice than to access the help of abroad dentists. Being done in a hurry this treatment creates a lot of risks. However it also represents a way that increases the dental tourism during the crisis.

We can notice that the dental travel  has two big advantages. The first one are the much smaller prices in the developing countries, even if the quality is usually the same. The second one is the combination between the dental treatment and a nice and relaxing holidays . Considering these two we realize why the dental travel increases its popularity while the crisis is developing. Everyone has the chance to kill two birds with one stone ..

Dental Implants: Procedural Overview at Facets Dental Practice -Kochi

Dental Implants: Procedural Overview at Facets dental practice Kochi

Compared to a routine dental filling or crown (cap), replacement of a missing tooth or teeth with implants is a more complicated and lengthy process. It will take several phases. A periodontist or an oral surgeon will place the implant surgically. Then we will place the tooth or visible portion.

Phase One In phase one of the treatment, the specialist evaluates the position, suitability, and strength of the bone that will surround the implant. This information will determine the length and width of the implants and how many implants will be necessary to replace the missing teeth. Impressions of all your teeth will be taken for study models in order to design the shape of the tooth or teeth to be implanted. A surgical guide will be made to indicate to the surgeon where the implants should be placed.

Phase Two Phase two consists of the surgical procedures to place the implant in the bone. A local anesthetic is given, and the gum tissue is lifted to expose the implant site. The implant is placed into the bone and the gum is closed over it. You will not see the implant while integration with the bone takes place. The integration takes 4 to 6 months. After this time, the site is opened again and a healing collar will be threaded into the implant. This will guide the tissue into a shape that is needed for the future crown(s). The time that the healing collar needs to be in place will vary from person to person, but will be at least several weeks.

Phase Three Phase three will begin once the tissue shape is sufficient. In this phase, specific attachments and components will be fitted to the implant. The implant components are similar in function to the wall or plaster anchors used to hang pictures on drywall. The healing collar is removed. Implant transfer copings, analogs, and other items are used to take an impression of the site. The healing collar is then put back on. The impressions and implant components are sent to the laboratory for fabrication of implant posts and temporary acrylic crowns. When the temporary crown or bridge is returned from the laboratory, the healing collar is removed and the implant attachments are fastened to the implant. The temporary crowns are then seated and adjusted. They will be held in place by temporary cement or with screws, depending on your certain situation. We will explain the advantages and disadvantages of each in your particular case at the time you decide to have the implant. Temporary crowns are placed because the bone that supports and surrounds the implant must be given the opportunity to be put into function gradually. Implant techniques dictate that the implants be slowly brought into biting function. This means you will be returning several times to have more acrylic added to the temporary crown. After the implant and temporary crown have been in biting function for a few months, the final crown(s) will be fabricated and cemented or screwed into place.

Maintaining All Your Teeth To keep your implants and your natural teeth healthy and functional for the longest time possible, clean the implant and your other teeth daily, as instructed. You will also need to come in for dental hygiene recare appointments at a 3- to 4-month interval. You have invested time and money in these state-of-the-art tooth replacements. Maintaining them as instructed will give you the best chance of success. We feel that the benefits of replacing teeth with implant-supported crowns and bridges far outweigh the inconvenience of the long start to finish time. This is especially true when the teeth on either side of the implant are sound, unfilled teeth that would not otherwise require dental treatment. Implants help you preserve your natural tooth structure.

Dental Holidays in India - Cheaper and Safer when you ask...

Questions to ask a dentist on your holiday destination

Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions when you are planning for dental holidays, even if they seem blunt or obvious. If you are not satisfied with the answers you are given, don’t feel you have to commit to anything that day.

Go home and do some more research until you feel confident that all your questions have been answered. You may also want to talk to other patients who have travelled for dental Holidays or  Dental Travel by visiting online groups and forums.

  • Who will be carrying out my treatment and what qualifications do they have?
  • Current Guidelines of  Practice?
  • Will the dental team speak English? If not, will you provide a translator on the day of the  procedure?
  • Do you have any references or testimonials from previous patients?
  • How many times have you carried out the procedure I am having? What are the rates of success,  complication, readmission and infection?
  • Are you regulated by a professional body and do you have to be registered with them?
  • Is the work guaranteed for a certain period of time?
  • What aftercare do you provide?
  • What happens if I am unhappy with the results? Who pays for the extra flights, hotel and remedial work?
  • If there are complications and I need further treatment, is this included in the initial cost?
  • Do you have insurance to cover this procedure?
  • Do you have a complaints system in place? Can I see a copy of it?
  • Who can I contact for advice after the treatment?
  • What is your Infection controle procedure?
  • And Take A practice Tour..
  •

If the dentist  claims to be a specialist, it’s also important to ask whether they can back this up. In India, the Indian Dental Council  along with Local State Dental councils hold the  lists of dentists entitled to practice dentistry.

Entry onto these lists is only granted if a dentist meets certain minimum standards of training.

You may also come across Dentists  trained by Royal college of Surgeons UK.

You may also want to find out if you can expect the same standards of training from the dentist who will be carrying out your dental treatment in India .

Good  Dentist Sees More Than Teeth -

The Mouth Holds Clues to Many illnesses

Your mouth can tell you a lot about your overall health.

Troubled teeth and gums aren't always just a dental problem. Sometimes they indicate deeper issues, and dentists are increasingly picking up the clues.

"We look around the mouth and we look for color changes. We're looking for certain smells. Spots around the gums," said  Facets, Girinagar dentist  Dr Seby Varghese

The relation of oral health to the rest of the body has got an  increased attention in recent years, spurred by such experts as Dr M Mathew who as  an internationally experienced Facio-maxillary cosmetic surgeon urged  to "increase the understanding of how the signs and symptoms of oral infections can indicate general health status and act as a marker for other diseases." The publicity reminded a lot of dentists that their jobs weren't just about root canals and fillings, and it educated the public, Dr Seby said.

Following are some non-oral-health issues and the possible clues  Dr  Seby says dentists may be able to identify:

-- Heart disease. Gums that have turned a "bright beefy red" or purple.  Dr Seby checks his patients' blood pressure when he notices those symptoms.

-- Type 2 diabetes. Gums that bleed at the slightest touch although there is no plaque evident.  Dr Seby said patients with diabetes also typically have sores elsewhere on their bodies that they may not have connected to the disease.

-- Kidney disease. A sweet ammonia smell on a person's breath, detectable even from behind a dentist's surgical mask.

-- Acid reflux. Teeth that look worn and pitted, as if they'd been "dipped in battery acid." Only some teeth will be affected, depending on where the acids settle during a person's typical sleeping position.

-- Oral cancer. Gum tissues with white spots that last two weeks or more. (Dr Mahesh of Facets  dental care said spots that clear up more quickly can indicate many other things, including something as simple as having bitten into too-hot pizza.)

-- Leukemia. Fiery-red swollen gums that just won't heal, distinguishable from diabetes symptoms with a blood test.

-- Osteoporosis. Certain black spots on tooth X-rays that indicate air pockets and dead bone.

-- Stress. Gums that have pulled away from teeth, or teeth that themselves are fractured. All sorts of fungal, bacterial and viral infections can enter the body through cracked teeth, Dr Seby said.

-- Sleep apnea. An enlarged tongue and inflamed gums in the part of the mouth through which air passes.

-- Pregnancy. Deeply swollen gums can indicate hormonal changes.

-- Bulimia. Upper front teeth that are paper thin, with the enamel almost completely worn away, and teeth that hurt. Distinguishable from acid reflux because different teeth are affected.

Dr Seby said that patients should make sure that dentists aren't "just looking in their mouths for five to 10 seconds" and that a thorough inspection should take at least five minutes.

He said that when he notices symptoms in his patients' mouths, he'll often have them come back in two weeks. About half the time, the symptoms are gone with no lasting effect. The other half of the time, he'll refer the patient to a physician.

"Every dentist in this country has this training," Dr Seby said. "So it's good for consumers to make sure their dentists are paying attention."
